Aspherical lens - A lens with a specially ground front element surface to correct coma. This usually has more technical than pictorial importance. An application of the material is placed on fast lenses for use at maximum aperture in dim light; when, for instance, street lamps or other points of light near the edges of the frame would ordinarily record as tear-drop shapes.
